Yes it is Sunday (mothers day in fact) and yes we still offer mobile remapping around Nottingham, This being the 2nd job of the day a Citroen DS3 1.6 with 90hp standard and in dire need of a remap to Stg1, a stock in this form they are very underpowered with nothing in the way of throttle response or anything else for that matter! A shame because the Citroen DS3 is a fairly funky car, it’s light, nimble, has lot’s of great features but is let down by the puny 1.6 PSA turbo diesel engine.
So Citroen actually fitted a Bosch ECU into these, in fact this one is running EDC17C10 because it also runs PAT fluid which is DPF related and Peugeot and Citroen have been using this since 1998 without much of a hiccup! The replacement is Adblue of course, that’s a total shambles but! Back on topic of what gains can i get from a remap to Stg1.
Well this lady owner was a bit disgusted by the stock power output of the 1.6 diesel engine so used our free remap calculator to find the gains we could offer by remapping it to Stg1
As stock this car produces 90hp, however there are other variants with exactly the same engine making 120hp, how does this happen i hear you cry (not really but go with it) well, this is all down to the ECU which controls the engine, it being a computer like any other computer, you can program it to do whatever you want, if you have the skillset to do that.
For years manufacturers have tried to sell you something more expensive with more options as standard, that is what sales is! So a Citroen salesman sells you this 90hp version but ideally wants to sell you the more expensive 120hp version, it has more options on it, the engine is more powerful etc etc, you might be getting the picture now!
Nowadays however there are people like us that offer remapping at a cheaper price than buy the ‘next car up’ i’ve actually had a customer ring me while buying a new car asking if i can remap it for him! (still a valued customer to this day!)
So if you haven’t guessed already these Citroen DS3 use the same motor as Peugeot and everything else PSA (Ford, Peugeot, Citroen) so can be remapped safely to 135hp with a gain of at least 40nm in torque, the main point here being torque, if you don’t understand how it works then let me just say, it’s what you will use mainly and not power. In this case that is over 1/3 more power and torque for nothing more than a remap! Not only that but usually MPG increases as well! It can only get better not worse!
