Mitsubishi ASX Diesel Remap - Bleasby

So todays job was remapping a Mitsubishi ASX 2.2 Diesel with 150hp as standard, the history of this vehicle was not clear but a quick drive up the road i could hear the turbo spooling up and generally the engine was a little more ‘noisy’ than i would have suspected, so my suspicion was that the DPF filter had been removed previously, after a quick look under the bonnet it was obvious that the ECU had been removed in the past and probably some time ago, these Denso ECU’s are security bolted to the frame of the car, meaning there is no easy way to remove the bolts, clearly you can see in the first picture that they have a ‘slit’ through them so that a screwdriver can release them.

The next decision was to continue the removal, did we think it was mapped already? After a drive up the road, probably not but very hard to tell (especially when i’ve never driven one before), so removal of the ECU was set about and hopefully i would be able to find a stock ECU file to compare the read file from this ECU, thus ‘see’ what has been done to it previously! As you can see this cannot be done via OBD port (not with Alientech Kess3 anyway) 2nd picture is the ECU on the bench all wired in ready for a read, once we have that then it’s just a matter of finding a stock file, which surprisingly was easy this time.

The third picture shows Kess3 writing the new modified file back to the ECU, which in this case was around 3 minutes to complete, once that was done, back out to the car to refit the ECU to the vehicle and then test drive for a few miles just to make sure everything behaves like it should. Remember i drove this myself having never drove it before, but the post remap performance was night and day! I didn’t even realise these were front wheel drive until after the remap where the tyres were squealing under the loose road surface to break free, also something to note was the estimated fuel range had changed instantly from 120 miles left in tank to 160 mile range, although this did drop fairly quickly on the test drive after giving it some high revs and speed, but all in all a good vehicle to remap! Responds very well to it and at 150hp for a 2.2 Diesel engine it was a bit lazy to say the least! Better with a remap stg1!
