A VW Passat today for remapping, this was a mobile job in Langley Mill – Nottinghamshire. So the owner complained that the engine light (EML) was intermittently coming on and going off with a P0401 code which is insufficient flow due to the EGR not following the ‘maps’ that the ECU had, meaning that the ECU sends a signal to the EGR to open at a set opening and expects an exact amount of exhaust gas to then pass through and back into the engine to reduce the NOX content produced by the engine.
When the valve starts to get clogged up by carbon produced from the engine then it starts to stick, this then causes problems further down the line and ultimately makes your vehicle unreliable and will cause it to go into ‘limp’ mode, now lot’s of people slag off EGR delete remap’s but if done correctly there is nothing to the context of they’re argument! So a quick rework of P codes associated with the EGR valve and hey presto no more problem’s to sent the car into ‘limp’ then it’s just a matter of cleaning the EGR valve with Vag-Com and everything should be back to normal and give years more service without actually having to replace the EGR valve itself. Not only that but it works out a lot cheaper this way compared to buying and fitting a new EGR valve. Find out more, just contact us for details.
