Some jobs we just should say no too! This Insignia is the later type fitted with AC Delco E98 ECU, in itself it’s an easy ECU to read and write to but this one turned into a nightmare i shouldn’t have wasted time on.
Firstly and i must stress this to all owners, it is your responsibility to have a working vehicle! It’s stated in our terms and conditions upon excepting us to come out and carry out a remap, this Vauxhall wouldn’t even start the battery was that bad ( you may notice the bonnet up ) and even with my car running and it on jump leads the battery was still knackered!
That wasn’t the end of it though, the owner complained that it was coming up with a NOX fault and wanted the P code deleting as it was triggering the engine management light, these Insignias are Adblue versions and knowing this i also know how to bypass the problems without disabling the system. However!!
These Ac Delco E98 ECU’s are fairly hard to find original files for, i needed an original to overlay the ‘read’ file from this vehicle so that i could work out what had been done to it in the past, unfortunately there was no 100% match, but i did have a close, possibly 70% matching file, this leads me on to idiots that question ‘generic remapping’ compared to ‘custom remapping’, Lets explain that really quickly for people, do you honestly think your vehicle has a custom map from the factory? No it doesn’t! The whole generic over custom remapping is what i class as keyboard warriors on forums that really shouldn’t comment on anything they know nothing (clearly) about.
So now i had a similar file i could see this vehicle had much work done to it, it was clearly running a Stg1 Remap, no receipt or proof of this in the vehicle history, that never helps companies like us, not only that but a botched job on the Adblue system meant that trying to clear the NOX fault just opened a can of worms! After at least an hour messing about with this Vauxhall and suspecting there was no payment going to be forthcoming in the end i decided to put the original file we took from the ECU and reapply it! My time had been wasted long enough and with the customer not knowing anything about the history of the car it seemed like banging my head against a brick wall, clearly this car needed money spending else where before even thinking about solving the engine light problems!
